Jaguares have announced their participation in Amnesty International’s upcoming Small Places Tour. A hugely popular Rock group from Mexico City, Jaguares will lend their talent and energy once again to Amnesty’s current campaign, which coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Through media interviews, ads, concerts, college visits, and community forums throughout the Americas, Jaguares will encourage audiences to join Aliados con Amnesty, a group of activists engaged in promoting human rights for Latinos that’s the fastest-growing network of Amnesty International members.  The band will also participate in activism events hosted by Amnesty Aliados volunteers, and will include information about the organization with the release of their new album “45” on September 2nd. 

The Small Places Tour is unique in that artists worldwide can participate, just like Jaguares, to raise funds and awareness by performing benefit concerts, offering premium-seating packages, or auctioning off meet & greets and other unique fan experiences between September 10 and December 10. The proceeds will go towards Amnesty’s UDHR 60 campaigns, which include putting a stop to torture, demanding the closure of Guantanamo, ending the killing in Darfur, preventing violence against women, protesting China’s actions in Tibet, and working for the release of Aung San Sui Kyi in Burma.

For nearly half a century, Amnesty International has been fighting the good fight on behalf of the underdog and the oppressed. From Pete Townshend’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” at the first Amnesty International “Secret Policeman’s Ball” gala in 1979 to Green Day’s stirring rendition of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero” for Amnesty’s 2007 Darfur campaign, musicians and fans have always answered Amnesty’s call, willing to stand on the front lines of the war to counter terror with justice and human rights.

Las orquestas juveniles e infantiles de Venezuela, fundadas por Antonio Abreu, fueron galardonadas hoy con el premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes 2008, informó la Fundación que lleva el nombre del heredero de la Corona.

El jurado, reunido en Oviedo, ha destacado su labor por “haber combinado, en un mismo proyecto, la máxima calidad artística y una profunda convicción ética aplicada a la mejora de la realidad social”.
